The Íæż½ã½ã/AIA Housing Design Education Award is granted jointly by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (Íæż½ã½ã) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to recognize the importance of good education in housing design in a wide range of areas and able to be capable leaders and contributors to their communities.
Judging Criteria for the Housing Design Education Award will be evaluated on the basis of the positive impact on students, the university, or the community. This impact may be found in areas such as the creation of a stimulating environment for learning about housing issues or for stimulating positive outcomes related to housing issues between and among university and community members. Submissions should convey how they address ideas of cultural, social, economical, or environmental sustainability.
Persons in Íæż½ã½ã full-member and candidate-member schools who are engaged in teaching may enter one or more submissions relevant to their educational activities. Previous winners in the Housing Design Education Award may apply each year with new program components.
Entries should be submitted through the online system, up to 20, 8.5×11 pages in PDF format, no more than 20MB. An abstract (not to exceed 300 words) describing the course or activity. Íæż½ã½ã understands work submitted to the awards programs is created through collaboration with students, organizations, firms, communities, and/or industry partners. Íæż½ã½ã advocates for fair labor practices in architecture education and awards submissions must represent the best practices in the field.
Therefore, award submissions must acknowledge all work performed in collaboration and must be properly credited. Submissions should include the information listed below including compensation for student work and/or firm support. This could be student earned course credit, firm work/resources, or financial contributions. The supporting material will need to clearly denote all collaborating parties involved, and their roles for each project.
A selection committee of four individuals, composed of two members from AIA and two members appointed by the Íæż½ã½ã Board of Directors, shall review nominations and recommend winners. A maximum of three awards will be made in any year. Winners will be presented with a certificate of merit and will have the opportunity to present their work at the Íæż½ã½ã Annual Meeting.
